【Self-Care Is Not a Luxury. It’s a Leadership Practice.】

The Era of Self-Care: Why This Moment Matters

Held at the Tokyo American Club, our Global Women Luncheon brought together nearly 90 women in celebration of International Women’s Day—not just to connect, but to reframe what self-care truly means in today’s world.

Because in a culture that often glorifies constant output, self-care is still misunderstood as indulgence. This gathering challenged that notion—positioning self-care not as a reward, but as a discipline. One that enables clearer thinking, stronger leadership, and more sustainable ambition.

Across conversations on wellness, ambition, and community, the afternoon explored a simple but powerful idea: taking care of oneself is not separate from leadership—it is foundational to it.

【Speaker Highlights】

The panel brought together women navigating different paths of leadership, each offering a personal lens on how self-care shapes the way they live and lead.

  • Reiko McNish Sato (AMATERAS)
Reiko shared her journey growing up between cultures, and how what once felt like being an outsider became a source of creative strength. Her story reframed identity not as something to resolve, but something to leverage—turning difference into direction.
  • Reina Matsuo (PLANDOSEE)
Reina reflected on a pivotal shift—from pursuing rapid expansion to building with greater intention. She spoke about redefining value through community, emphasizing that sustainable growth often requires slowing down to realign with purpose.
  • Chihiro T. (AMEDIO)
Balancing a PhD, leadership, and motherhood, Chihiro offered an honest look at navigating multiple roles. She highlighted mentorship, clarity of purpose, and the ongoing process of checking in with oneself—not as a one-time decision, but a continuous practice.

Beyond the Panel

Over lunch and rosé from Niki Hills, conversations extended beyond the stage. What began as a discussion evolved into something more personal—shared experiences, new connections, and a sense of collective understanding.

The atmosphere reflected what the theme set out to do: make self-care tangible, relational, and integrated into everyday life.
